The Kite Runner : Taking a pause with my reading.

I started reading The Kite Runner with curiosity, knowing it was a well-loved and highly recommended book. At first, it felt gentle—almost nostalgic—with its focus on childhood, friendship, and life in Afghanistan. But as the story unfolded, it began to take a darker and more intense turn.

I’ll be honest—I had to pause.

The shift into heavier and more violent themes caught me off guard. It wasn’t just the events themselves, but how real and emotionally heavy they felt. It made me realize that some stories don’t just entertain you—they ask something from you. They ask you to sit with discomfort, to witness pain, and to reflect on things you might not be ready to process yet.

And maybe that’s where I am right now—not unwilling, but not quite ready.

Or maybe I just don't have the headspace for anything emotionally taxing yet.

Even though I didn’t finish the book (at least not yet), I can already see why it resonates with so many readers. There’s depth in the way it portrays friendship, loyalty, guilt, and the consequences of our choices. It doesn’t romanticize life—it shows how complicated and sometimes painful it can be.

For now, I’ve decided to step away from it, not because it isn’t good, but because it’s too powerful for the space I’m currently in. I do hope to return to it someday, when I feel more ready to face the weight of its story.
